In 2014, European regulators classified MEKO as an H-351 carcinogenic category 2 product. SiSiB specialists have developed MEKO free anti-skinning agent MIBKO (Methyl Isobutyl Ketoxime) and MPO (Methyl Propyl Ketoximoe), they are used as anti skinning agent for water based paints in oil-based paint, for water based paints, alkyd paint and epoxy paint.
Anti-skinning agent can prevent the formation of the skin due to the oxidative polymerization of the binder at the coating-air interface.
Anti-skinning agents inhibit or delay the oxidation process, thereby preventing skin formation during storage and use. The anti-skinning agent does not affect the color and filming tendency. The formation of skin is directly proportional to the environmental temperature to which the paint is exposed, and the solid content in the paint. Poor formulations, production faults and processing faults also contributed to this problem. In addition, the formed skin may block the nozzles of the spray painting equipment and damage the appearance of the silicone waterproofing coating.
Anti-skinning agents are generally used as solvent-based coatings, mainly for alkyd-based coatings. In solvent-based alkyd paints, anti-skinning agents are usually added to prevent unnecessary drying in the paint. MEKO is the most widely used anti-skinning agent, and the proportion of addition in paint is very small, but its use faces potential regulatory obstacles.
